The Borough of Lewisham's Flourishing Arts Scene

Mar 14, 2018

One of London’s most up-and-coming cultural hotspots, the London Borough of Lewisham, home to L&Q’s Excalibur, has a thriving arts scene, attracting creatives both established and up-and-coming.

For a taste of theatre, head to The Albany in Deptford. Support local young artists and producers with one night only of music and dance in partnership with Lewisham Live, on the 24th March. Alternatively, if you have a taste for the classical, don’t miss London Sinfonia’s relaxed, lunchtime performance on the 17th April showcasing the skills of their strings section.

If you can’t stop your feet from moving, try out an African dance class courtesy of IRIE! Dance Theatre, and learn all about African and Caribbean movement, dance, music and culture. For those who enjoying dressing up in a top hat and tails, head to Rivoli Ballroom in Catford, one of London’s last remaining intact 1950s ballroom. Their monthly ballroom nights and cabaret events are sure to get your toes tapping!

Those who prefer a more relaxed cultural afternoon, stop off at Horniman Museum to explore their extraordinary anthropological museum set within 16 acres of landscaped gardens. Get up close and personal with a stuffed walrus or try playing a musical instrument dating all the way back to 1555! With plenty of family-friendly exhibitions, plus a busy calendar of workshops and activities, there is plenty to get involved with.
